Why do copper bracelets help with joint pain?

Answer:
Some copper is actually absorbed thru the skin by reacting with fatty acids in the skin. Some persons with arthritis are deficient in copper which is an important coenzyme for Superoxide dismutase (SOD). These people may notice some benefit attending the green wrist. Others won't see much benefit. If you don't note any change after a couple of months it probably isn't going to help. You might check out glucosamine sulfate or celadrin or MSM. Monavie juice also seems give some people relief. Good luck
It's the highly technical "placebo" process.
They don't, they only help your wrist turn green!
Do they? Are you sure? Absolutely no concrete evidence that they help.
They don't; they've tested it. If you feel an improvement, it's psychosomatic.
Copper bracelets for arthritis pain relief is an old folk remedy. It is believed that copper is absorbed by the skin to relieve joint pain. The concept of copper absorption is mostly anecdotal and remains controversial. Most choose and use copper jewelry for fashion not function
About as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
Not in the slightest, nor do magnets. It all dates back to the days of witchcraft! Sustained perhaps by the very high placebo affect which can occur when dealing with pain issues. In the few weeks I have been answering 'Health Answers' I have had my eyes really opened. I had no idea that such a high percentage of the population are so naive as to believe in the myths, potty patent medicines, illegal drugs, illegally purchased prescription only drugs, charlatans and just plain crooks, purporting or pretending that they can fix them.
i cane answer ur q , but i thing that dear dr.frank should do some research on research done on magnetic therapy before making such sweping statements .
well the theory is that the coppers magnetics feild helps correct the eaths magnetic fields im not gonna tell you its a load of bullshitbut i think it is :P
Hi Russell, copper bracelet acts as a cofactor, or partner, in many enzymes and processes, affecting a wide variety of bodily functions and systems.Copper works with Vitamin C in the production of collagen and elastin, which are connective tissues that, quite literally, hold the body together. In addition to this aspect of wound healing, copper also has a role in the first step to wound healing 鈥?blood clotting. It also partners with iron in the making of red blood cells, which serve the essential purpose of bringing oxygen throughout the body, as well as helps the body to absorb and use iron. It is helps to make bones, working with calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, Vitamin D and Vitamin C.Copper has a role in the nervous system, as well. It is necessary in the creation of the myelin sheath, which protects nerves and enhances their communication. The connective tissues and nerves in the brain require copper for both structure and function. Copper also serves as a cofactor in the production of the body鈥檚 important antioxidant enzymes, making a significant contribution to the control of damaging free radicals. As a trace element, the body requires just a tiny bit of copper daily. Adults should have just 1.5mg to 3mg per day. It is important to note that too much copper can be toxic to the body鈥檚 system. So daily a copper bracelet use is not recommended.

I have Fibromylagia and I even tried the QRay that they claim works. NOT!! I tried them wearing them longterm and even buying new ones each year. I did this for over 4 years and I swear it seemed more like the pain was getting worse. I didn't find them to help at all. What I found more useful is a healthy diet full of veggies and fruits, and well balanced meals cutting out all the excess sugar when possible, drinking lots of water, no soda (this actually robs your body of essential minerals and vitamins and can make pain levels worse, and walking and stretching. I dodn't understand why we are always looking for some miracle cure when it is right there in front of our face that if we eat right, get some exercise, drink water, and think positive it can be so helpful
Copper is essential for the formation of collagen, which makes up the connective tissue of the bone matrix. One of the early signs of copper deficiency is osteoporosis.(Prescription for Nutritional Healing, Balch %26 Balch, 1990) Copper deficiency is linked to certain types of arthritis pain. Theoretically, trace amounts of copper would be absorbed through the skin.
Thank you Dr. Frank...you echo my sentiments exactly. I initially thought that these "Health Answers" might be interesting or thought provoking; but it's actually scary to see how many desperate and ignorant people are out there who might actually follow the advice of some of these charlatans and their "junk science".
I think it is because it is believed that they change the electrolytes in the blood stream, thus curtailing the inflammation
