Whilst taking the herbal supplement 5htp should you avoid any other vitamins or herbal supplements?

Answer:
The enteric-coated 5HTP works best for me for sleep, if I take it at bedtime. In the daytime I take regular multiple vitamins and mineral supplements and there are no interactions. Some herbs, like St. John's Wort could conflict, because it also messes with the serotonin levels in the brain. Herbs are medicines and do have strong functions, sometimes, so don't presume them to be innocuous. Check out interactions by calling your pharmacist and asking him or her about which herbs you are taking directly, or look them up in a good herbal book, like "Back to Eden" or a reference book. And you can call the reference librarian at any public library and they can tell you all kinds of ways to find out more.
Yes. Though B-6 is often added to 5-htp supplements, it changes where it is metabolized and converted into serotonin (in the liver instead of the brain, where you want it to be).
5HTP will not interact with other herbal supplements or vitamins. It is safe to take them. If you still have concerns, take the 5HTP, wait an hour then take anything else you may be taking.

  1. This truth is indisputable: there are just way too many herbal supplements out in the market today. It can be very difficult to choose from among them all. However, it is very important that you take only the right herbal supplement fit for you depending on your lifestyle and needs. In case you don't, there is a good chance for you to end up spending hundreds of dollars on health supplements that are good as nothing.
