When I have a simple cold what is the best medicine to take.?

Answer:
first make sure it is a cold and not something else because a cold is caused by a virus;if it is a cold, there is no medication you can take - especially not antibiotics (because only living things are affected by antibiotics and a virus is not a living thing, just a group of proteins that mimic living things); the only thing you can do is to alleviate the SYMPTOMS (fever, chills, stuffed or runny nose, etc), which is to take lots of liquids containing vitamin C (fruit juices) and fruits (guava, peppers - I consider anything coming from a flower a fruit, citrus, pomegranate, mangosteen, etc);for stuffed up nose, a towel over your head as your face "hovers" over a warm (NOT HOT) steam is a good home remedy that works and cost little; if you find this "boring", you can "flavor" the steam with scented oils - lime or eucalyptus are soothing, just don't put in too much;finally, get lots of rest; if your immune system is up to task, the cold should not last more than 3 days; if it persists, go see a competent medical practitioner (preferably one that you trust and will not fill you with synthetic chemicals from the pharmacy);
Water. Keeping yourself hydrated is the best thing that you can do for yourself no matter the situation.
There is no remedy, just symtomatic relief.
Cold is due to viral infection. It lasts between 3-5 days. Just have lots of fluids, remain warm, gargle with hot water to prevent sore throat, or secondary infection. Steam inhalation helps clear stuffy nose. If the stuffiness is real bad, throw in a small leaf of cabbage in the water just before you start inhaling steam. Vitamin C is good it boosts the immune system.To suppress, take some warm water add to it 2 spoons of brandy, one spoon of honey, one spoon of lemon juice, and drink it. Suppressing cold is not advisable as it may lead to other problems like congestion, cough, and sinusitis. Think before you leap.Do not take any antibiotics. They dont help.
Extra Vitamin C
Garlic/licorice capsules
Cayenne capsules
Echinacea/golden seal capsules or tinctureAt the first sign of a cold (that very night) take a very hot bath and stay in until you start to sweat. Get out, dry off, dress up warm, and wrap up in a warm blanket and sweat it out for an hour. Then dry off, clean dry warm clothes and some hot tea with honey and lemon.
With the above supplements, this works for me, my colds last one day (if I catch them early).
Mix whiskey wild cherry extracts and honeyin near equal parts.Sip this mixture when your symptoms bother you but the taste is BAD but it will help.
Zycam cuts the duration of the symptoms in half. don't forget the extra vitamin c
there is no best remedy. Everyone is different so we each need different remedies. There are lots of things to consider. You can use herbs, supplements, extracts, homeopathy, flower essences, reflexology, massage, enemas, food cures etc. For your solution you will have to try each one until you find a combination that works for you.

Try the Home Remedies. Customary suppressive drugs like aspirin and coldarin only paves the way for future trouble of a more serious nature. As much as possible, avoid coming into close contact with infected persons, especially if they cough or sneeze.A person with a cold is extremely contagious: He or she fills the air with fine particles of saliva or mucous which transport the virus microbe. Even if the person is careful to wipe his nose with tissue or a handkerchief, the microbes will be transported to his hands. And studies have shown that these viruses are transmitted through hand contact. So if you have to shake hands with someone who has a cold, you would better wash soon after!What can you do if you do catch a cold?
It is useless to take antibiotics: They have no effect on viruses. However, there are certain substances found in alcohol which help decongest sinuses, that is why a good hot toddy can work wonders. But take care of your liver: A toddy is just as good with a little rum as with a lot.You don鈥檛 have to get drunk to get better. You don鈥檛 even have to drink it - just sniff some strong alcohol like cognac or brandy and breathe in the fumes.Hope this helps, Good Luck.
Drink lots of hot lemon drinks to clean your body out and stop eating all dairy foods cos they can prolong a cold.
